  • Total Time: 59 minute
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 7 tablespoons cocoa powder, divided
  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pan by ensuring it is clean and ready to use.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, 3 tablespoons of cocoa, and 3/4 cup of white sugar.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Prepare the Batter: Pour the batter evenly into the ungreased baking pan.
  5. Mix Topping: In another bowl, combine the remaining 4 tablespoons of cocoa, the remaining 1/2 cup of white sugar, and brown sugar. Sprinkle this mix evenly over the batter.
  6. Add Hot Water: Gently pour the hot water over the mixture without stirring to create layers.
  7. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes. The top should be set and the center should be wonderfully gooey.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
