Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Start by cooking ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic in a skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Create Sloppy Joe Mixture: Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and black pepper into the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes until it thickens.
- Prepare Garlic Bread Base: Combine butter with minced garlic and spread it evenly on each half of the French bread.
- Assemble: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over the garlic buttered bread halves. Top evenly with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake to Crispy Perfection: Place in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the bread is crispy around the edges and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Cut into individual portions and serve hot, ensuring each slice is loaded with the meaty topping and melted cheese.
