- 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
- 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook Meats: In a skillet, brown the sausage and beef. Add onion and garlic, cooking until soft.
- Prepare Sauce: Mix in Italian seasoning, basil, tomatoes, and tomato paste; simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Mix Ricotta Filling: Combine ricotta, egg, half the Parmesan, and seasoning in a bowl.
- Assemble Lasagna: In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat, ending with meat sauce.
- Add Cheese and Bake: Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for 25 more minutes.
- Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before cutting.
