For the cookies:

For the maple icing:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup real maple syrup
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.
- Chill: Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll and Cut: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.
- Bake: Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to brown.
- Prepare Icing: For the icing, whisk together melted butter, maple syrup, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust consistency as needed.
- Cool and Ice: Allow cookies to cool completely before applying the maple icing.
- Decorate: Drizzle or spread maple icing over the cookies. Let the icing set before serving.
