  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Noodles: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the lasagna noodles per package directions until al dente, then drain.
  2. Cook the Meats: In a skillet, brown the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic. Drain excess fat.
  3. Mix Cheeses: In a bowl, combine ricotta, cottage cheese, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  4. Layer the Dish: In your baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara. Add a layer of noodles, half the ricotta mixture, half the meat, and a layer of mozzarella. Repeat.
  5. Final Layers and Bake: Top with a final layer of noodles, the remaining marinara, and mozzarella. Pour water around the edges. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15 more minutes until golden.
  6. Rest and Serve: Let sit for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with basil if using.
