- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 1/4 cups warm milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- Additional sugar for coating
- Optional fillings: jam, chocolate spread, or cinnamon sugar
Instructions
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Make the Dough: Gradually add warm milk to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 10 minutes.
- Butter Incorporation: Roll dough into a rectangle, spread butter over, fold in thirds, roll again, and repeat the fold. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Shape the Cruffins: Roll out, cut into strips, and coil each strip into a cruffin shape. Place in a muffin tin.
- Proof the Dough: Let the cruffins rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
- Finish and Serve: While still warm, roll in sugar or fill as desired with jams or spreads.
