- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Start by heating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking dish.
- Brown the Beef: Cook the ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until the beef is thoroughly browned and onions are tender. Drain any excess grease.
- Layer the Ingredients: In the baking dish, arrange a layer of sliced potatoes, then half of the beef mixture. Repeat the layers.
- Mix the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and black pepper. Pour this over the layered beef and potatoes.
- Bake Covered: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Add Cheese and Finish Baking: Remove the foil, sprinkle the cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Rest and Serve: Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes before serving to help it set.
