Brown Sugar and Bacon Baked Beans

Brown Sugar and Bacon Baked Beans

Get ready for a side dish that might just steal the show at your next dinner.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound bacon, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 (16 oz) cans pork and beans
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 325°F (165°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.
  2. Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, fry the diced bacon until crisp. Once done, use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon and set it aside. Drain all but 2 tablespoons of the bacon fat from the skillet.
  3. Sauté the Onion: Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook in the remaining bacon fat until translucent and tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the pork and beans, cooked bacon, sautéed onion, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, molasses, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Stir well to blend all the flavors.
  5. Bake the Beans: Transfer the bean mixture to a large baking dish. Place in the oven and bake for 2 hours, or until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Remember to stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Once done, allow the baked beans to cool slightly before serving. They're perfect alongside grilled meats or as a hearty main on a chilly day.
