Best Old Fashioned Goulash

With this recipe, you’re all set to create a meal that’s as nourishing as it is delicious.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat Oil and Sauté Onion: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add Garlic and Beef: Introduce the minced garlic, cooking for one minute until fragrant. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Incorporate Spices: Stir in paprika, oregano, basil, and black pepper, and cook for another minute.
  4. Mix Tomatoes and Simmer: Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, and a bay leaf. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat and cover. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Add Pasta: Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Continue to simmer, covered, for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender.
  6. Season and Serve: Remove the bay leaf, adjust salt to taste, and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
