Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Baking Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Incorporate the beaten eggs, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Sift Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Combine with Applesauce: Alternately add the dry ingredients and applesauce to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  5. Add Raisins and Walnuts: Fold in the raisins and chopped walnuts.
  6. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
