- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup raisins
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 2 large eggs, beaten
Instructions
- Prepare Your Baking Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Incorporate the beaten eggs, mixing well after each addition.
- Sift Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- Combine with Applesauce: Alternately add the dry ingredients and applesauce to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
- Add Raisins and Walnuts: Fold in the raisins and chopped walnuts.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
